We are currently looking for two exceptional individuals to join our dynamic team in Durban. We are looking specifically for:

  • A Community Project Officer who will work specifically with issues around local government and public participation.
  • A Junior Researcher (political science or related discipline)

 

The Community Project Officer (Local Governance and Public Participation) post:

Purpose: to ensure that the DDP is recognised as as a lead NGO as regards good governance and capacity building in the local governance sector.

Responsibilities:
• Facilitate workshops with local governance stakeholders (including councilors, traditional leaders, community based organizations and other local structures)
• Initiate and write proposals to potential funders to support our work
• Worki with the rest of the team on joint projects other than those necessarily associated with local government
• Present papers at conferences and workshops within the arena of local governance
• Design materials that would be relevant for the organisation as innovative resources for community building
• Support the CEO whenever necessary in the execution of his responsibilities where his/her expertise is called for
 

Requirements
• A degree in the Social Sciences ( preferably in the Developmental field) and any other qualification or diploma relevant to the task at hand
• Must be fluent in both English and ISizulu
• Must have at least 3-5 years working in this sector and must be an excellent facilitator
• Excellent working knowledge of the local government sphere ( including legislation, the IDP process, the ward committee system and traditional leadership)
• Excellent report writing skills
• Proficient with Ms office
• Self driven and highly organized in terms of deliverables
• A valid South African Drivers Licence
• At least two current references from organizations that you have worked with
 

The salary attached to this post is in the range R15-R19 000.00 per month, depending on experience.

 

Junior researcher post:

Responsibilities:
• Undertake supervised research relating to the thematic areas of work of the organisation
• Assist with fund raising proposals
• Report writing
• Assist with the compilation of the annual report of the organisation
• Respond to policy debates and current political issues when necessary
• Undertake fieldwork when necessary
• Project monitoring

Requirements:
• Post graduate degree in the social sciences, preferably political science
• Excellent spoken and written English
• Proven research ability
• Previous research experience would be an advantage
 

The salary attached to this post is R12-R16 000.00 per month, depending on experience.
