Workshop: Understanding Local Government
28-30 May 2010 -- The DDP Cape Town office conducted this pilot workshop working with the community groups from various areas in the Western Cape. The workshop covered the development context, understanding the causes of poverty, developmental local government, the role of local government as well as understanding gender and gender based violence and the role local government can play in issues of prevention and response.
The workshop was facilitated by Colleen Ryan and Colleen Saunders.
The workshop was well received by all participants and some found the role of local government especially interesting as they had not realised the role of the Councillor or the role of the Ward Committees. They had also not realized that they could have a role in their own development through the processes that are followed.
