Tour of the Parliament of the Province of the Western Cape

11 June 2010 -- The guided tour started with an explanation of the symbolism behind the parliamentary emblem, which includes messages of equality, access, and accountability. It then continued with a tour of the Parliamentary Chamber where a brief explanation of the governmental process was given followed by a video that went into more detail.

The group then had an opportunity to ask questions and make comments and it was evident that the visit provoked much thought as there were many insightful remarks. Our primary objective of this visit was to expose residents of Lavender Hill and the surrounding area to the functions of local government by creating a tangible relationship between how they interact with government and how government responds. This new exposure can greatly improve motivation to learn, tendency to engage, and the overall communication between constituents and representatives.
