2011 Local Government Elections: Does the Councillor serve your needs? Does your vote work for you? What is the role of the Ward Forum?
20 April 2011; Square Hill Community Centre, Retreat The primary objective of the event was to give ordinary citizens an opportunity to engage their respective candidates or political parties on issues concerning them in the local government elections in order to make an informed decision should they choose to vote.
Attendees included representatives from a range of local organisations and political parties. Community members used the meeting to air their grievances and voice their concerns and complaints. These concerns ranged from issues around IDP processes; the election of ward committees; the accessibilty of municipal facilities including sports grounds, libraries and halls to crime prevention and sanitation services.
