Civil Society
Up one levelPublic Dialogues & Fora
Political forums are aimed at creating a platform for dialogue and debate between leaders, experts, academic and civil society. These debates seek to advocate accountability and public participation.
Cape Town Political Forums
The Cape Town political forums are slightly different to the Durban series in their format, in that they aim to attract a small (25-30 people) group of thought leaders, academics and active citizens who are brought together for 2 hours to engage in a robust discussion around a current concern of the political economy of our country. The topic is introduced by 2 lead speakers and then opened to the floor for discussion and debate. They are usually moderated by Judge Dennis Davis.
Capacity Building
DDP continues to capacitate and empower members of civil society and organizations in order for them to fulfill their roles of representing the interests of their respective communities. More than 57 organisations, which focus on democracy, human rights and community participation, received training in 2005. After the training, DDP monitors the organisations’ activities in order to asses the impact and effectiveness of the training.
Democracy and Voter Education
People need to be informed of their rights and responsibilities within a democracy which includes education on the technical aspects of casting one’s vote.
