Courageous Conversations
18 March 2011 at the Koinonia Center from 18h00-21h00

Vuleka Trust and the Democracy Development Programme have pleasure in inviting you to the first Courageous Conversation for the year. Following on the keen interest from the conversations that were hosted, this first conversation focuses on the issue of Crime in South Africa and the response of the Faith Based Community to changing the conversation to one of possibilities.

We are pleased to have two speakers who will provide us with us with some thought provoking ideas and possibilities:
- Wayne Thring is the Provincial Leader of the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) and
- Justin Foxton is the person behind “Stop Crime- say Hello “campaign that is currently being broadcast on many community radio stations around the country.

Join us for an evening of facilitated conversation around a topic that has affected all of us in one way or another.

What are Courageous Conversations?

Recognising that through our listening and sharing we are able to find one another, despite (or because of) our differences, Vuleka hosts a monthly gathering – around the fire with a humble meal - which seeks to create just such a space.

We find that in our diversity (and there is so much to celebrate), we are able to discover our sameness and so we edge a little closer as we seek to find one another in this rebirthed land we call South Africa.

We may not always agree – but we will always agree to listen.

Some basics:

Children are welcome.
Please invite a neighbour.
We welcome all people of all faiths and traditions, denominations and creeds.

Some essentials:

Please bring blankets and a pillow – we will be sitting around the fire but it can be cool in the evenings.
Our conversations are conducted safely and with respect for differing views.
No recordings will be made and you will be accountable to yourself and your friends only, for taking things further.

Most essential: RSVP

We DO need to know if you are attending, for catering purposes
A contribution to costs of R30 per person includes a simple meal.
