“None of us comes into the world fully formed. We would not know how to think, or walk, or speak, or behave as human beings unless we learned it from other human beings. We need other human beings in order to be human. I am because other people are. A person is entitled to a stable community life and the first of these communities is the family.” – Arch Bishop Desmond Tutu.
The adoption community of Kwa-Zulu Natal is under increasing pressure to deliver a solution to the mounting social crisis of orphaned and vulnerable children in our province and beyond. The need for a coordinated effort has been recognized at both a political and social level however, efforts and processes to date have been hampered by new legislation and a lack of collaboration.
After engagement in a conversation with Justin Foxton about the crisis, the DDP agreed to host a one day workshop with members of the adoption community, to discuss the possible development of a Kwa-Zulu Natal adoption coalition. Justin Foxton is the Founder and Director of ‘Stop Crime Say Hello’
The objectives of this workshop will be primarily to discuss the need for a unified voice, and then identify steps required to make this a reality. As such, you will need to have the mandate of your organization to participate and speak on their behalf.
The intention of the workshop is to create space to:
• Facilitate a networking opportunity for all interested organizations and individuals.
• Discuss the possible benefits, challenges and opportunities of forming a KZN adoption coalition.
• Create an environment for new and dynamic conversations to take place around the issue of adoption.
Never before has the need for collaboration and partnership been more necessary in our community. We hope you will join us to map the way forward to a sustainable social solution for our cities vulnerable children.
The workshop will be facilitated by Rama Naidu (DDP) and is scheduled to take place on the 11th of March 2011 at the DDP Office in Durban between 08h30 – 15h00.
