KZN Civil Society Consortium

DDP untertakes to set up a consortium of civil society organizations in KwaZulu Natal with the intention of undertaking Province wide projects in our areas of expertise.

As the funding environment becomes increasingly difficult there is a need for those of us who work within the broad arena of active citizenship (good governance, accountability, and citizen mobilization, service delivery) to come together and discuss in earnest, Province wide programmes that we can jointly fundraise for and implement effectively.

The rationale is based on the following:
• There is an increasing call from funding partners to work with consortia that have a wider reach than their local area.
• The need to strengthen the voice of this sector in the Province
• To learn more about our work and explore synergies to enhance the impact of our interventions.
• To get more funding for our important work.

To this end we would like to convene a meeting of selected partners to share information about our work and to brainstorm ideas on how to get this off the ground. The meeting has been scheduled for 08 March 2011. If you think that your organisation would be seriously interested in becoming a part of such a consortium please drop an e-mail to our Project Manager, Manju (manjum@ddpdurban.org.za). We will let you know the venue closer to the time.

- KwaZulu Natal Regional Christian Council (KRCC)
- Community Law and Rural Development Centre (CLRDC)
- Valley Trust
- Black Sash
- Ithembalabantu
- Diakonia
- Vuleka Trust
- Marian Ridge Coordinating Committee (MCC)

If you should know of any other potential partners that you have worked with before please forward their details to Manju Marimuthu at the DDP office. Once you have confirmed your attendance (09h00 - 15h00), I will send you a draft plan for the day. Since this is such an important meeting it would be appreciated if the Directors or someone who is mandated to make decisions could make themselves available at the meeting.
