What is the future of South Africa - Development or Decline?

The recently published New South African Review: Development or Decline (Wits University Press 2010) addresses a number of major socio-political and economic issues confronting contemporary South Africa. The text poses the provocative question of whether SA is embarking upon a long-term developmental decline and engages with some of the challenges confronting the state – including issues around the economy, service delivery, in-migration and the state of the ANC and the public service.

Bearing in mind the wide ranging concerns around the state of our nation, the Democracy Development Programme (DDP) will host a one day seminar, led by three of the editors and key contributors to the first volume of the New South African Review.

We are pleased to welcome Prof Devan Pillay, Prof John Daniel and Prof Roger Southhall. The sessions will include:
 Revisiting key issues in the SA economy
 The State, Politics and Challenges of Delivery
 Reform and Redress –Higher Education and Health
