Workshop: Domestic Violence Act
21 June 2008 - The Chatsworth Community Care Centre (CCCC) works with the court and the SAPS as well as the community. Most of the work by the CCCC focuses on domestic violence and the application of protection orders. One of the main concerns from the CCCC, SAPS and court was the abuse and misinterpretation of certain aspects of the Domestic Violence Act.
The CCCC decided that if a forum was created for these main role players to discuss the challenges of implementing the Act, then service delivery and the workload of both SAPS and court could be improved. The DDP agreed to partner on this workshop. The highlight of the initiative was that this was a local initiative. The main role players were working towards improving service delivery on their own. By both SAPS and court committing to this process on their own accord, shows how concerned they are about issues of domestic violence and how it is affecting the community.
