2011 Partners in Transformation
This report is based on the processes and the outcomes of the second part of Phase four of Partners in Transformation workshops in 2011 as conducted in Big 5 False Bay, Hluhluwe.
South Durban Basin (SDB) Social Development Network (SDN) - Community Building Through Dialogue Workshop, 02-04 November 2011, KwaMbonambi.
The SDB – ABM approached the DDP to assist them in finding was to readdress their approach in working with the South Durban Basin Community. There have been many interventions into the communities with very little impact and various approaches have tried to help address some of the social challenges in the community.
Promoting democracy: a multi-media approach
Co-funded by the EU and KAS, DDP is working with civil society organisations and community radio stations to promote participation in democractic processes. DDP and KwaZulu Natal Regional Council of Churches (KRCC), our partners in the conversation, having participated in the Promoting Democracy: a multi-media approach project, invited a group of 30 women to a conversation in a local community hall in Nkanini, Eshowe, Zululand.

Public Forum: Climate Change and COP-17
The forum on 20 September 2011 was co-hosted by Imagine Durban and DDP, on the topic of climate change.

31 August 2011 - Democracy Development Programme, in partnership with Symphonia, screened Waiting for Superman - a documentary about the crisis in US education.
Understanding the Consumer Protection Act and its implications for non-profit organisations
30 August 2011 - The Consumer Protection Act No 68 of 2008 came into effect during April 2011. The Act has implications for the non-profit sector.

On 28 July 2011, DDP was honoured to host Dr Devi Rajab and the launch of her latest book – No Subject is Taboo.
Memorandum of Understanding signed with KZN Community Radio Hub
The KZN Community Radio Forum has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Democracy Development Programme (DDP). The agreement, a first of its kind in the history of the KZN Radio Hub comes after the Chairperson of the KZN Radio Forum, Ms Thandeka Msani held several meetings with the DDP, requesting their support for Community Media in KZN.
UNISA – DDP Community Dialogue – Oakford
As part the UNISA Chance-to-Advance programme which they (UNISA) are piloting in various communities around the country, two communities were identified; Wentworth and Oakford. DDP was chosen as a partner to facilitate the Community Dialogues in these communities.

A collaborative community dialogue workshop between the DDP and UNISA was held in the Wentworth community as part the UNISA Chance-to-Advance programme which they (UNISA) are piloting in various communities around the country.

DDP launched the Youth Democracy Programme at Mzuvele High School in kwaMashu on 30 May 2011.
Political Dialogues: run-up to 2011 local government elections
With local government elections around the corner on the 18th May 2011, Democracy Development Programme, Diakonia Council of Churches and Ithembalabantu Community Resource Centres partnered to bring politcal dialogue to the people. The purpose of these dialogues was to enhance political tolerance in Ethekwini, for political parties to present their manifestos regarding issues that were raised by the above communities, and most importantly to give communities an opportunity to ask questions of party representatives so that when they vote they make informed decisions.
Sowetan joined hands with the DDP, ACCORD and Gagasi FM 99.5 and the IEC hosted a ground breaking election debate.

Human Rights Day March
21 March 2011, Durban - The Right2Know campaign was invited to be part of a mass march that was being planned for 21 March 2011, Human Rights Day. Various organizations were invited to participate in this event which for the sake of organizing was under the banner of the Durban Social Forum.
City Budget Breakfast Briefing: WE HAVE A RIGHT 2 KNOW ABOUT OUR CITY BUDGET - ARE WE AS CITIZENS PLAYING OUR ROLE?
18 March 2011-DDP partnered with the Diakonia Council of Churches to host a Breakfast Briefing Session on the topic of municipal spending in eThekwini, particularly in the light of recent media reports on irregular and unauthorised spending. Dr Michael Sutcliffe, eThekwini municipality City Manager, and Mr Krish Kumar, Chief Financial Officer, attended on behalf of the City Council. Dr Sutcliffe presented the draft 2011/2012 budget for the city.
